After graduating from Dental School in 1999, Dr. Walter practiced in Brazil before joining the Operative (Restorative) Dentistry Graduate program at UNC School of Dentistry in 2002.  He received his Master of Science degree in 2005 and joined the faculty at UNC where he stayed until 2011.  From 2011-2014, Dr. Walter taught at UPenn School of Dental Medicine.  He returned to UNC in 2014 and served multiple roles in the school including Group Practice Leader for sophomore, junior, and senior dental students and Associate Dean for Clinical Education. In 2023, he joined HPU Health as Clinical Director of HPU Health Hillandale.

Dr. Walter is co-editor of the Sturdevant’s Art and Science in Operative Dentistry book, which is the restorative textbook used in many dental schools in the country for many decades.  Dr. Walter has more than 40 peer-reviewed publications on materials used in restorative dentistry (e.g., bonding, tooth-colored fillings, etc) and is the Associate Editor for clinical research for the Journal of the Academy of Operative Dentistry.  He has helped educate approximately 2,000 dentists during 20+ years of academia, while also providing dental care for patients in the faculty practice at UNC.
